About the Role

We are seeking a reliable and motivated Kitchen Hand / Cook with at least two years of commercial kitchen experience. This role suits someone confident working across prep, service, and cleaning, who takes pride in maintaining a safe and well-organised kitchen.

You will work closely with the head chef and kitchen team to ensure smooth service, high food quality, and excellent hygiene standards.

Key Responsibilities

Food Preparation & Cooking

  • Assist with food prep including chopping, portioning, and basic cooking
  • Prepare and cook simple menu items independently during service
  • Follow recipes, portion control, and presentation standards
  • Assist with plating and service during busy periods
  • Baking savory and sweet items for the cake cabinet

Kitchen Operations

  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen areas, equipment, and utensils
  • Wash dishes, cookware, and tools during and after service
  • Assist with stock rotation, labelling, and storage
  • Help with receiving and checking deliveries

Food Safety & Hygiene

  • Follow food safety, hygiene, and WHS procedures at all times
  • Ensure cleaning schedules are completed where required
  • Report maintenance or safety issues promptly

Teamwork & Communication

  • Work cooperatively with chefs, front-of-house staff, and management
  • Take direction well and contribute positively to the team environment
  • Assist with opening and closing duties as rostered

Skills & Experience Required

  • Minimum 2 years experience in a commercial kitchen
  • Basic cooking skills and confidence working on the line
  • Good understanding of food safety and hygiene practices
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • h3 work ethic, punctuality, and attention to detail
  • Flexible availability, including weekends and peak periods

Desirable (but not essential)

  • Food Safety Certificate
  • Experience in cafes or casual dining venues
  • Interest in developing cooking skills further
