Pay: Fitness Industry Employee Level 3/4 depending on experience

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and passionate Climbing Instructor to join our team. This is a senior floor role suited to someone with 1–2 years of climbing gym or outdoor climbing experience who is ready to take on greater responsibility.

You will lead group classes, support route setting, supervise the climbing floor, and play a key role in keeping our community safe and engaged. High rope rescue training will be provided, and we are looking for someone eager to develop their skills and grow with the business.

Key Responsibilities

Supervision & Safety

  • Supervise the bouldering and climbing floors and maintain a safe environment for all users
  • Deliver bouldering and rope inductions to new climbers
  • Enforce gym rules and safety procedures with confidence and professionalism
  • Perform and maintain readiness for high rope rescue procedures (full training provided)
  • Conduct regular equipment checks and report maintenance issues promptly

Classes & Instruction

  • Plan and deliver group climbing classes for adults and juniors
  • Coordinate and facilitate kids programs and school group visits
  • Adapt coaching style to suit a range of ages, abilities, and experience levels

Route Setting

  • Assist with setting and maintaining bouldering problems and rope routes
  • Contribute ideas and creativity to the wall with guidance from senior setters
  • Help maintain route rotation schedules and grade consistency

Staff & Operations

  • Assist with supervising and supporting junior floor staff
  • Contribute to staff rostering and shift handover where required
  • Support opening and closing procedures
  • Help coordinate and run in-gym competitions and community events

Community & Social Media

  • Represent Rocky Climb positively in person and online
  • Contribute to social media content including photos, videos, and event promotion
  • Help build and nurture a welcoming climbing community

Skills & Experience Required

  • 1–2 years experience in a climbing gym, outdoor climbing, or related active recreation role
  • Genuine passion for climbing and sharing it with others
  • Confident communicator with strong customer service skills
  • Ability to lead groups and manage safety with calm authority
  • Reliable, organised, and comfortable taking initiative
  • Flexible availability including weekends and peak periods

Desirable (but not essential)

  • Climbing coaching or instruction qualifications
  • First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain one
  • Experience with route setting at any level
  • Experience running kids programs or school excursions
  • Existing social media or content creation skills

About the Role

We are looking for friendly and motivated junior climbing floor staff to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, has an interest in climbing, and is keen to learn all aspects of gym operations.

You will be the first point of contact for customers, help manage the climbing floor, and ensure a safe, welcoming environment for climbers of all ages and experience levels.

Key Responsibilities

Reception & Customer Service

  • Greet customers and create a welcoming first impression
  • Check climbers in, manage bookings, and process memberships and casual entries
  • Answer basic enquiries in person, by phone, and online
  • Handle POS transactions, waivers, and retail sales

Climbing Floor & Safety

  • Supervise the bouldering floor and maintain a safe environment
  • Deliver bouldering inductions to new climbers
  • Explain gym rules, safety procedures, and basic climbing etiquette
  • Assist customers with equipment hire and fitting

Retail & Shop Management

  • Assist with stock counts and restocking
  • Work in the shop, serving customers and selling products
  • Keep retail and reception areas clean and organised

General Duties

  • Assist with opening and closing procedures
  • Help maintain cleanliness across the gym and shared spaces
  • Support events, parties, and busy periods as required

Skills & Experience Required

  • Friendly, confident, and professional communication skills
  • Strong customer service focus
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and enforce rules calmly
  • Reliable, punctual, and willing to learn
  • Comfortable working weekends and peak times

Desirable (but not essential)

  • Previous experience in customer service, retail, or hospitality
  • Interest in climbing, ideally prior bouldering experience
  • Ability to assist in the cafe during busy periods
  • Food Safety Certificate or willingness to obtain one

About the Role

We are looking for a friendly and skilled Barista to join our team at our combined cafe and climbing centre. This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in producing quality coffee, enjoys working with a diverse range of customers, and thrives in a busy, energetic environment.

You will be the face of our cafe, responsible for delivering consistently great coffee and food service while contributing to a welcoming atmosphere for climbers, families, and the wider community.

Key Responsibilities

Coffee & Beverage Service

  • Prepare and serve espresso-based drinks to a high and consistent standard
  • Operate and maintain the espresso machine and grinder
  • Steam milk and prepare drinks to customer specifications
  • Serve cold drinks, teas, and other non-coffee beverages

Cafe Operations

  • Assist with food service including cabinet food, toasties, and simple menu items
  • Follow food handling, hygiene, and presentation standards
  • Keep the cafe counter, equipment, and seating areas clean and organised
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures for the cafe

Stock & Administration

  • Monitor stock levels and communicate shortages to management
  • Assist with receiving deliveries and rotating stock
  • Accurately process POS transactions and handle cash and card payments

Teamwork & Customer Service

  • Greet customers warmly and provide attentive, friendly service
  • Work cooperatively with kitchen staff, floor staff, and management
  • Support the broader team during events, busy periods, and peak times

Skills & Experience Required

  • Proven barista experience in a cafe or hospitality setting
  • Ability to produce quality espresso-based drinks consistently under pressure
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Reliable, punctual, and takes initiative
  • Comfortable working weekends, early mornings, and peak periods

Desirable (but not essential)

  • Food Safety Certificate or willingness to obtain one
  • Experience with cabinet food, light food prep, or kitchen support
  • Familiarity with POS systems
  • Interest in health, fitness, or the climbing community
